Can one fall in love with a beauty routine? Be so fond of it that you even look forward to it in the evening and don’t want to use anything else? That’s how I feel at the moment with my makeup routine. With a few, but efficient steps, I take off my daily makeup and use as little plastic as possible! At the same time my skin is happy about my minimalistic routine using only high quality ingredients: it is healthy and better moisturized!
But I have raved long enough about it. Here’s my little beauty secret:
Step 1: First I put a small dab of oil in my hands. Yes, you read that correctly! Oil for pure skin! But not all oils are made equal! And some oils are even suitable for oily and impure skin. Exactly which ones are good can be read on the so-called comedogenicity scale, which shows which oils clog the pores the most and which (with a value of 0) not at all.
Argan oil, for example, is one of the oils with a comedogenic level of 0 – it does not clog the pores, at all. At the same time it is super nourishing and easy, in my personal opinion, a miracle product for the skin! Yes, it is quite expensive, but my bottle lasted from the end of October until now (so with daily use it lasted about 4 months). Other suitable oils: Hemp seed oil, prickly pear oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, rosehip oil and many more. The super trend coconut oil is not necesserily the best, as it has a 3 on the comedogenic level, so it’s not perfect for acne prone skin. I still like to use it while traveling!!!
Put the oil on your hands and spread it on your face. Make sure to rub the oil thoroughly over persistent eye make-up. You’ll be greeted by your panda face in the mirror 🙂
Step 2: After distributing the oil evenly and rubbing it into your skin (the oil loosens the makeup from the skin), moisten a soft bamboo or organic cotton cloth with water and then gently remove the oil from your face. I normally do not have to rub to do that. If there is some eye make-up that remains behind (this is sometimes the case, especially with some mascara brands) I just repeat step 1.
Cotton towels are just super gentle to the skin and also save a lot of plastic, since I no longer need to buy packaged and elaborately produced cotton pads.
Step 3: Actually, I’m usually already finished with my make-up routine. But if I need the extra cleaning kick (which I do according to how I feel) after step 2, I use a cleaning mousse on my cheeks and forehead. I especially like the cleaning mousse from bio:vegan as well as the Hammamelis foam from Weleda (Affiliate Links).
Step 4: Since I have dry skin and want to protect my skin as much as possible from premature aging, I then use an intensive care product. Either I put some oil on my skin (for example, argan or wild rose oil), or use a night cream. I don’t have a holy grail of night creams, but I generally like to use the ones from Lavera! While traveling I like to just use one oil and currently I am loving the rosehip oil by Merme Berlin (I also love using it back home in Berlin, it was a PR sample).
That’s it already! I warned you, my routine is very minimalistic, but I think that’s exactly what my skin needs! Less is often more, however trite it sounds.
