How to: conscious shopping with a list

If you are regular readers you must have read about my shopping ban project. Read about the why and about my shopping ban recap. Now, more than three months after the ban is over, I am pretty proud about myself. I am staying away from H&M, I don’t buy stuff to make me happy, I chose quality over quantity and I will try to stick to conscious shopping with a list. But how did I come up with it?

Last winter I realized that I really don’t have enough winter appropriate clothes (I am a summer girl), not enough warm pullovers, pants, boots and coats, but I didn’t even know where to start. So I just shopped random stuff that I want to give away now.  Such a waste! Also during my research for my “Winter Basics” post, I realized  that I am missing all the basics. To not make the same mistakes this year I started to write myself a list. It’s pretty long and I don’t need all of these things but at least I know what to save my money up for and for what not, and I will have this list for next year, too! I crossed out items are ones that I found already and I will update this list regularly:

Jetzt, mehr als drei Monate später, bin ich relativ stolz auf mich. Ich bleibe H&M & Co. fern und “Kauf Dich Glücklich” ist auch nicht mehr mein Motto. Ich bevorzuge Qualität statt Quantität und ich halte mich halbwegs genau an eine Shoppingliste um nachhaltiger einzukaufen. Aber wie bin ich dazu gekommen?

Letzten Winter habe ich festgestellt, dass mir einige Winter Basics fehlen, wusste aber überhaupt nicht wo ich anfangen soll und habe einfach sinnlos geshoppt. Dabei landeten Teile in meinem Schrank, die ich dann nur einmal getragen habe. So eine Verschwendung! Außerdem habe ich während meiner Recherche für meinen Winter Basics Post festgestellt, dass mir bestimmte Teile einfach  fehlen. Um dieses Jahr besser vorbereitet zu sein, habe ich mir jetzt eine Liste erstellt. Sie ist relativ lang, und ich brauche auch nicht alles unbedingt. Aber wenn ich shoppen gehe, will ich nach diesen bestimmten Teilen Ausschau halten und weiß jetzt auch, für was genau ich mein Geld sparen kann.Die Teile, die ich schon gefunden habe, sind durchgestrichen und die Liste werde ich regelmäßig aktualisieren (einfachheitshalber mal nur auf Englisch):

Winter Shopping List:

– high quality sweaters, black, blue, beige, light grey (not made out of plastic, but cashmere, cotton or similar)
– black long cardigan
– tartan skirt
– tartan pants
– a bag from Matt & Nat
– green parka
– oversized grey coat
– duffle coat
– form fitting leather skirt
– over knee boots
– sneakers/ sneaker wedges, Vans
– flat cow-boy like ankle booties
– (p)leather pants
– high quality jeans black & blue (from Lee, Levis or similar),

There will always be some special items for special occasions that are not on this list. But I will always try to make a concious decision and try to create a more sustainable shopping habit. Do you like to make lists, too? Do you like to just shop mindlessly or are you trying to put more thought into your decisions? Whats your preference, Quantity or Quality?

Es wird immer ein paar besondere Teile und Anlässe geben, wegen denen ich von der Liste abweichen werde, aber ich werde versuchen, immer bewusste Entscheidungen zu treffen. Macht ihr auch Shoppinglisten? Bevorzugt ihr es lieber gedankenlos zu einzukaufen, seid ihr eher Gelegenheitshopper, oder versucht ihr beim Kauf genau zu überlegen, ob der Kauf Sinn macht? Was bevorzugt ihr, Qualität oder Quantität?
