Travel Guide Part I: London’s best Cafés & Pubs

Unsere drei Tage in London haben wir voll ausgenutzt. Insgesamt waren wir in 11 Cafés und Pubs. Kulinarisch erlebt man eine Stadt einfach am besten, finde ich 🙂 Da auf Instagram sogar London-Kenner viele meiner Spots unbekannt waren, habe ich heute eine detaillierte Liste aller Cafés und Pubs in London zusammengestellt, die wir besucht haben. Wie ihr auch gleich meinen Texten entnehmen könnt, habe ich aber tatsächlich kein einziges Mal Kaffee getrunken! Ihr werdet gleich feststellen, warum. Eine Liste zu veganen Restaurants und den perfekten Foto-Locations folgt übrigens auch noch!

Our three days in London were packed! In total, we were in 11 cafes and pubs. Drinking coffee and cider it just the best way to discover a new city 🙂 Since even some London experts seemed to not know many of the spots I posted on Instagram, I put together a detailed list of all the cafes and pubs we visited in London. A list of vegan restaurants and the perfect photo-locations will follow as well!

Grind Coffee Shoreditch

Hier haben wir unseren ersten Morgen in der Stadt gestartet. Da wir in einem Airbnb in Shoreditch gewohnt haben, war Grind Coffee die perfekt Location für uns am frühen morgen. Für mich habe es einen Grüntee, sowie ein Avocado-Toast.

Here we started our first morning in the city. Since we stayed in an airbnb in Shoreditch, Grind Coffee was the perfect early morning location. I had a green tea, as well as a vegan avocado toast.

Paper & Cup

Dieses Café haben wir zweimal besucht. Das Schöne: Das Café ist ein Non-Profit-Unternehmen, dass mit seinen Gewinnen Obdachlose und Drogenabhängige unterstützt, wieder auf die Beine zu kommen. Das Einzige was mich gestört hat: Der Matcha Latte kam immer im Plastikbecher, auch als ich eindeutig gesagt habe, zum hier trinken.

This one we visited twice. The cool thing about this café is it is a non-profit company that supports homeless people and recovering drug addicts to get back on their feet. The only thing that bothered me: The Matcha Latte always came in a plastic cup, even when I clearly said that I was going to have the drink to stay.

Origin Coffee Roasters Shoreditch

Bei Origin Coffee Roasters haben wir nur einen ganz kurzen Stop gemacht, damit Jesse einen kleinen Pecan-Pie essen und ich einen Soy Chai Latte genießen konnte. Besonders fand ich die Wandkunst direkt am Eingang des kleinen Cafés.

At Origin Coffee Roasters, we made a very short stop for Jesse to eat a small pecan pie and I enjoyed a yummy soy chai latte. I really liked the wall art right at the entrance of the small café.

Host Café

Ein Besuch dieses Cafés ist ein Erlebnis für sich. Das Café ist in der St. Mary Aldermary Kirche situiert und es ist einfach ein einmaliges Gefühl, wenn man in so einer besonderen Architektur sitzt und einen Tee oder Kaffee trinkt.

A visit to this café is an experience in itself. It is located in the St. Mary Aldermary Church and it is a unique experience to enjoy a tea or coffee while sitting in such a beautiful piece of architecture.

TY Soho

Wenn ihr hier reinkommt, wird euch sofort ein Coworking-Wind entgegen wehen. Alle sitzen hier mit ihren Laptops und scheinen super busy zu arbeiten. Die meisten sahen so aus, als wären sie auf Jobsuche oder auf Facebook. Wir haben es uns auf zwei riesigen Sesseln gemütlich gemacht und zwei Red Espressi geschlürft – dies sind Espressi aus Roibusch-Tee. Ein ziemlich cooles Getränk!

When you enter this place you immediately experience the typical coworking-vibe. Everyone sits here with their laptops and seems to be working super busy. Most looked like they were job hunting or on Facebook. We sat down in two huge and comfortable chairs and enjoyed two red espressos – these are made from rooibos tea. A pretty cool drink!

Grand Café Royal Exchange

Nach einem gemütlichen Nachtmittag sind wir über diese coole Location gestolpert. Ich hatte sie locker in Google Maps eingespeichert, aber da wir dann zufällig dort in der Nähe waren, musste ich auch hier kurz vorbei schauen. Über den Kaffee oder Tee kann ich aber leider nichts sagen, da wir dort nur kurz Fotos gemacht und eine Pipi-Pause (im Keller des Gebäudes) eingelegt haben! 🙂

After a delightful afternoon we stumbled across this cool location. I had saved it in Google Maps, but didn’t include it in my plan, but since we randomly walked past it we had to go in. I can’t say anything about the coffee or tea, because we only took a few quick photos and took the chance to visit the loos (in the basement of the building)! 🙂

Biscuiteer’s Boutique and Icing Café

DER Instagram-Spot unter den Cafés, meiner Meinung nach. Als wir dort aufkreuzten hat bereits ein Pärchen geshootet und danach haben zwei Mädels ganz eindeutig Fotos für ihren Instagram-Kanal gemacht. Beide Gruppen haben aber nur die schicke Fassade ausgenutzt. Jesse und ich haben uns aber tatsächlich etwas bestellt und Limo und Chai Latte getrunken. Die Limo war hausgemacht und super lecker. Ihr müsst auf jeden Fall mal rein schauen. Die hangbemalten Kekse sind einfach zu süß!

THE Instagram spot amongst the cafés, in my opinion. When we showed up there was already a couple shooting some blog photos and then two girls who were clearly taking photos for their Instagram channel. Both groups only used the chic facade. Jesse and I actually ordered something: we had a lemonade and Chai Latte. The lemonade was homemade and super delicious. You also have to look inside the shop. The hand painted biscuits are just too sweet, literally!

Farm Girl Café

Dies ist mehr eine Foto-Location als ein leckeres Café. Die Donuts und Drinks sehen herzallerliebst aus, sind aber völlig überteuert für das was sie sind. Die Geschmack hat mich auf jeden Fall nicht umgehauen. Ich wollte euch das Café aber trotzdem auflisten, damit ihr mein Feedback habt, denn die ganzen geilen Fotos auf Instagram, täuschen etwas.

This is more of a photo location than a delicious cafe. The donuts and drinks look very nice, but they are totally overpriced for what they are. It definitely didn’t blow me away. I wanted to include it on the list you anyway, so you have my feedback and because all the pretty photos on Instagram could be a bit misleading.

Churchill Arms Pub

Nach tausenden von Schritten durch das wunderschöne Notting Hill war dies unser perfekter letzter Spot: Der etwas außergewöhnliche Churchill Arms Pub. Das Interior ist sogar noch interessanter, die ganze Decke ist mit Töpfen, Gieskannen, Bildern, Instrumenten und mehr behangen. Und das erwartet ihr bestimmt nicht: Der Pub hat sich auf thailändisches Essen spezialisiert! Jesse und ich hatten jeweils einen erfrischenden Cider – yummy!

After thousands of steps through beautiful Notting Hill this was our perfect last spot: the somewhat extraordinary Churchill Arms Pub. The interior is even more interesting, the entire ceiling is covered with pots, watering cans, pictures, instruments and more. And this might also surprise you: the pub specializes in Thai food! Jesse and I each had a refreshing cider – yummy!

Commercial Tavern

Hier hatte ich ein kleines, aber feines Meeting mit People Tree, die einzige Location, die ich vorher selbst nicht ausgesucht hatte. Dieser Pub ist aber die perfekte After-Work-Drink-Location und wenn ihr ganz nach oben geht, könnt ihr eine nette Aussicht (ist nur eine große Straße), sowie eklektisches Interior genießen.

Here I had a quick but super nice meeting with People Tree, the only location I had not picked out prior to the trip. This pub is the perfect after-work drink location, and when you get to the top, you can enjoy a nice view (just of a big street, but nice anyway), as well as an eclectic interior.

The Whistling Shop

Jesse hatte sich neben den ganzen Cafés auch eine coole Gin-Bar gewünscht. Laut Recherche soll The Whistling Shop dafür genau der richtige Ort sein. We also auf Gin steht, sollte hier mal vorbei schauen, doch ich warne euch: Die Karte ist sehr umfangreich und verwirrend, aufgrund unzähliger Hipster-Namen für die Cocktails!

In addition to all the cute cafés Jesse wanted to visit a cool gin bar. After some research I concluded that The Whistling Shop is exactly the right place for that. Anyone who likes Gin should visit this bar, but I am warning you: The menu is very big and confusing, due to countless hipster names for the cocktails!
