Dream Beach – Thong Nai Pan Noi on Koh Phangan

Wenn am schönsten ist, soll man aufhören? Ach, unsere Tage mit Elli und Sean hätten zumindest noch einen Tick länger dauern können! Nach drei Tagen trennten sich aber unsere Wege. Die beiden düsten los nach Bangkok und wir machten uns auf den aufregenden Weg über Krabi auf die Insel Koh Phangan.

Doch kurz ein paar Schritte zurück: Wer hat uns überhaupt zur Weltreise inspiriert? Ben & Sara, Freunde aus Jesses Heimatstadt New York, haben vor drei Jahren auf ihrem eigenen World-Trip einen Stop bei uns in Berlin gemacht. Nach sechs aufregenden Tagen zusammen war mein Entschluss gefasst: ich muss auch unbedingt auf ein Abenteuer um die Welt! Gesagt getan, ihr wisst wie es danach weiter ging 🙂

So kam es auch, dass wir vielen Empfehlungen der beiden gefolgt sind, da sich unsere Routen in Asien natürlich etwas ähneln. Eine davon war der Strand Thong Nai Pan Noi auf Koh Phangan, der Ben & Saras Lieblingsstrand auf der ganzen Reise war.

Is it true that one should stop when times are the best? Oh, our days with Elli and Sean could have lasted at least a tad longer! After three days, however, our paths separated. The other two went to Bangkok and we went on the exciting route over Krabi to the island of Koh Phangan.

But just a few steps back: what inspired us to travel around the world in the first place? Ben & Sara, friends of Jesses from his hometown in New York, made a stop with us in Berlin three years ago on their own world trip. After six exciting days together, I had made up my mind: I had to go on my own adventure around the world! Said and done, you know what happened afterwards 🙂

For that reason, we have also followed many recommendations from the two, because our routes in Asia are somewhat similar. One of them was the beach of Thong Nai Pan Noi on Koh Phangan, which was Ben & Saras favorite beach on the whole trip.

Mit KP habe ich vorher eigentlich nur Full Moon Parties verbunden. Nicht wirklich mein Ding. Doch ein Glück sind wir dem Rat meiner Freunde gefolgt (auf Facebook war er in einer Umfrage auch sehr beliebt)!

Thong Nai Pan Noi war Urlaubsstimmung pur. Nicht wirklich Backpacker-Feeling, aber nach 1,5 Monaten war komplettes Relaxen auch mal nötig 🙂 Es gab gutes Essen, Thai-Massagen, Spaziergänge am Strände, Kletterpartien über die Felsen am Meer und unsere ganz eigene, persönliche Full-Moon-Party: Zwei Chang Bier für mich und Jesse, sowie ein Stativ, um mit der Kamera den Supermoon 2016 festzuhalten.

I have previously only connected KP with Full Moon Parties. Not really my thing. But luckily we followed the advice of my friends (KP was also very popular in a Facebook survey)!

Thong Nai Pan Noi was pure holiday mood. Not really backpacker-feeling, but after 1.5 months complete relaxation was also necessary 🙂 There was good food, Thai massages, walks at the beaches, climbing expeditions over the rocks by the sea and our very own, personal full moon party: two Changbier for Jesse and I (and our tripod) to capture with the camera Supermoon 2016.

Auf die typische Full Moon Party hatte ich keine Lust. Zum einen teuer und nicht meine Musik und zum anderen hatten wir überhaupt keinen Bock auf die Leute und darauf, Teil der krassen Plastikvermüllung des Strands zu werden.

Apropos Plastik – je länger wir reisen, desto schwerer wird unser Herz wenn wir in der Nähe vom Meer sind. Es schwimmt einfach immer soooo viel Plastikmüll im Meer, egal wo. In Thong Nai Pan Noi war das zwar kaum sichtbar, der Strand war ausnahmsweise ziemlich sauber – einer der saubersten auf unseren ganzen Reise bis jetzt. Aber dennoch haben wir so einiges am Strand aufgesammelt. Die anderen Touris haben uns zwar am Anfang seltsam angeschaut, aber am Ende des Aufenthalts haben wir dann immer mehr Leute entdeckt, die Plastik aus dem Wasser oder Sand gefischt haben. Das hat insbesondere Jesse sehr gefreut, der in den fünf Tagen am fleißigsten gesammelt hat. Wenn ihr unterwegs seid und Müll in der Natur entdeckt – hebt diesen auf und entsorgt ihn gerne, auch wenn es nur eine Kleinigkeit ist. Vielleicht inspiriert ihr dann andere dazu, auch mit anzupacken!

I had no interest in the typical Full Moon Party. On the one hand expensive and not really my favorite music and on the other hand, we had absolutely no interest in the people and on becoming part of the terrible production of plastic waste on the beach.

Speaking of plastic – the longer we travel, the heavier our hearts become when we are near the sea. There is simply soooo much plastic waste floating in the sea, no matter where. In Thong Nai Pan Noi this was hardly visible, the beach was exceptionally clean – one of the cleanest on our whole trip so far. But still we collected a lot on the beach. The other tourists looked at us strangely at the beginning, but at the end of the stay we saw more and more people collecting the plastic from the water and sand. Jesse, who was the most hard-working in the five days, was particularly pleased. When you are on the road and discover garbage in nature – pick it up and dispose of it, even if it is only a a little piece. Maybe you will then inspire others to tackle the trash problem too!

Würde ich den Strand empfehlen? Wer nach Urlaubsstimmung am Strand sucht, inklusive gutes Essen, wohltuende Massagen und ein paar Ausflugsmöglichkeiten (Wasserfall, wandern, Kajak fahren, etc.), dem kann ich Thong Nai Pan Noi auf jeden Fall empfehlen! Für Backpacker, die nach Party, Abenteuer & Co. aus sind, eher weniger. Schön ist der Strand aber in jedem Fall und die Übernachtung im Thongtapan Resort günstig. Wir empfanden unseren kleinen Bungalow als mega Luxus für nur 19 Euro pro Nacht!

Übrigens stehen dort keine besonderen Sonnenuntergänge an (Ostseite), dafür atemberaubende Sonnenaufgänge:

Would I recommend the beach? If you are looking for a holiday mood on the beach, including good food, soothing massages and a few excursion possibilities (waterfall, hiking, kayaking, etc.), then I would definitely recommend Thong Nai Pan Noi! For backpackers looking for party, adventure & such, it is less suiting. Either way, the beach is nice and our stay in the Thongtapan Resort was cheap. We found our little bungalow which was a luxury for us for only 19 Euro per night!

By the way there are no special sunsets (east side), but breathtaking sunrises:

Getragen habe ich übrigens eine Second-Hand-Levis-Shorts, ein Kleid von Alternative Apparel und einen Yoga-Bra von der nachhaltige Yoga-Brand Mandala Fashion. Ich habe ihn im September von Mandala zugeschickt bekommen und direkt in meinen Rucksack gepackt. Und ich muss sagen, gute Entscheidung, denn auf der Reise war er bisher der perfekte Allrounder: beim Yoga (*surprise*), unter luftigen Kleidern, die eher ohne BH gut aussehen, auf Busreisen etc. (er ist schön weich) und auch einmal im Notfall als Bikini-Top-Ersatz. Das wollte ich nur kurz loswerden 🙂 So gibt es wenigstens ein bisschen Fair-Fashion-Content auf dem Blog hier und da!

By the way, I’ve worn a second-hand pair of Levis shorts, a dress from alternative apparel and a yoga bra from the sustainable yoga brand Mandala Fashion. I received it from Mandala in September and directly packed into my backpack. And I have to say it was a good decision, because on the trip it was the perfect all-rounder: yoga (* surprise *), under airy clothes, which look rather good without a bra, on bus trips etc. (it is very soft) and also once as an emergency bikini top replacement. I just wanted to add that in 🙂 So there is at least a bit of fair-fashion content on the blog here and there!
